A senior Iranian economic delegation headed by Iran’s Minister of Roads and Housing Rustam Kassemi arrives in Damascus today to discuss ways to develop bilateral economic cooperation.

The delegation includes a number of Iranian deputies and will hold a series of meetings with senior Syrian officials, where the visit will continue until next Thursday.

Minister Qassemi recently took over the presidency of the Iranian side of the Joint Syrian-Iranian Economic Commission, succeeding former Minister Mohammad Islami.

On Saturday, Syrian Economy Minister Mohammad Samer al-Khalil met with Iranian Ambassador to Syria Mehdi Subhani and discussed with him ways to expand relations between the two countries in the trade and economic sectors, remove obstacles to trade and economic activities, and exchange bilateral delegations.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to expand economic, trade, industrial and agricultural cooperation between Tehran and Damascus.
At the beginning of this year, Iranian Transport Minister Rustam Kassimi announced the start of practical steps to implement the rail link project with Iraq and Syria, explaining that Baghdad and Tehran agreed to establish a joint implementation company and establish a bridge to cross trains after the project is completed.
