Reuters: Turkish lira falls to an unprecedented low of more than 17.5 against the dollar

The Turkish lira fell again to an unprecedented bottom of more than 17.5 against the dollar, Reuters reported On Monday morning.

This comes after the Turkish currency fell on Friday, to 17.099 lira to the dollar, prompting the Istanbul Stock Exchange to suspend trading.

In the background of an unprecedented collapse of the national currency, Turkish President “Recep Tayyip Erdogan” on Sunday pledged to repeat his achievement of sharply reducing inflation in his country, stressing that his government continues firmly its policy of low interest rates.

On Sunday, thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Istanbul and Ankara, at the invitation of the trade union, to protest against the increase in inflation and the deterioration in the value of the Turkish lira.
