The leader of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kiligdar oglu , said the Turkish government’s policy under the AKP’s administration was undemocratic, in response to a formal lawsuit to close the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

“We must leave the closures of political parties and end the political parties if we are to defend democracy,” said Kemal Kiligdar oglu , head of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), on Thursday.

“The constitution states that political parties are indispensable elements of democracy,” said Kemal Kiligdar oglu , a critic of the AKP administration’s actions on the closure of political parties, calling it unconstitutional and losing the spirit of democracy in the country. “What does Closing parties mean?! Political, economic and social opinions are interpreted by each political party and shared with the public, and thrown in the trash by you. So, we have to abandon a process like closing parties or ending political parties if we are defending democracy.”

“Kemal Kiligdar oglu ” remarks came in response to the Turkish government’s filing of a constitutional court case to shut down the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), accusing him of being the political arm of the PKK.

The Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) is an official political party with deputies in the Turkish parliament, representing the Kurdish people of Turkey, and their political struggle, to defend the legitimate rights of the Kurds.
