U.S. Embassy in Damascus welcomes the first judicial verdict to Syrian officer in Germany

The U.S. Embassy in Damascus has issued new statements regarding the four-year prison sentence of a former Syrian intelligence officer in Germany, noting that , such a conviction “reinforces accountability for Assad’s atrocitie.”

“We welcome The Conviction of “Ayad Al-Ghraib” in Germany for crimes against humanity the first conviction of a former” Assad “regime official on these charges, which reinforces accountability for Assad’s atrocities, including well-documented torture of more than 14,000 Syrians,” the U.S. Embassy in Damascus said on its official page.

A German court sentenced a former Syrian intelligence officer, “Ayad Ghraib” to four and a half years in prison for “complicity in crimes against humanity.”
