The Russian president’s special envoy to Syria,” Alexander Lafrintiv”, confirmed that his country supports dialogue between the Syrian Kurds and the Syrian regime, to find a compromise, stressing Moscow’s rejection of the U.S. military presence in Syria.
“Russia supports dialogue between the Kurds and the Syrian government and pushes them to find compromises,” Lafrintiv said Wednesday.
“We do not interfere in Syria’s internal affairs, but we will not allow the possible collapse of state institutions,” the Russian envoy added.
On cooperation with Washington to resolve the Syrian crisis, Lafrintiv noted that “Russia is open to working with the United States on the issue of the Syrian settlement,” noting that “the subject of international cooperation is very important.
We are open to dialogue with our American partners, and while Washington’s position on the Syrian issue has not yet been finalized, more time is needed, but we hope for a constructive and interested dialogue with them in the future, if they show readiness with their parties,” he said.
Moscow does not accept the U.S. military presence in Syria, which it considers illegal, nor does it accept U.S. practices in “plundering” Syria’s natural resources, he said, hoping that “the new U.S. administration will adapt to the easing of sanctions against Damascus.”
On the other hand, the Russian envoy called on Israel to stop its attacks on Syrian territory, adding, “Sooner or later patience may run out and there will be a response from the Syrian side, so I call on Israel to stop its bombing.”
