French Foreign Ministry calls for end to mercenary presence and foreign intervention in Libya

The French Foreign Minister on Friday called for the departure of foreign troops and mercenaries from Libya, pointing to his country’s support for international efforts to end the political crisis and end foreign intervention in the country.

French Foreign Minister” Jean-Yves Le Drian” discussed with the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy to Libya” Jan Kubic” ways to support the political transition, according to a statement issued by the French Foreign Ministry.

The statement added that “LeDrian” stressed the importance of the real transition to the elections scheduled for the end of the year.

“The importance of speeding up the formation and inclusiveness of a comprehensive and representative government, and the need for full implementation of the ceasefire on October 23, 2020, including the departure of foreign troops and mercenaries,” the statement stressed.

The UN envoy told The United Nations that France’s support for the UN efforts to end the political crisis in Libya and end foreign interference.

This comes at a time when Turkey is stalling in withdrawing its troops and mercenaries from Libya.
