Denmark and Germany arrest group of “Syrians” who planned serious terrorist attacks

Kajin Ahmed –

German and Danish authorities announced that they have arrested a group of Syrians who were planning to carry out terrorist attacks that endanger the two countries.

German authorities said that three Syrian brothers arrested in Germany and Denmark on suspicion of preparing to carry out a terrorist attack with improvised explosive devices, while Danish intelligence announced that they had arrested a number of suspects preparing attacks.

“Two of the three Syrian brothers were arrested last weekend in Denmark and the third in the central German state of Hessen,” the Saxony State Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement Thursday.

“The three men, aged 33, 36 and 40, were arrested on suspicion of preparing to carry out a violent and dangerous act that endangered the state,” the statement said.

Danish intelligence said it had arrested 13 people in raids carried out between Saturday and Monday on the outskirts of Copenhagen, without giving any details about the suspects.

“Seven of these detainees were arrested on suspicion of planning one or more terrorist attacks or participating in an attempted terrorist act,” the intelligence service said in a statement, adding that it “also suspects that they were able to obtain components to manufacture explosives.

Last week, police began tracking down the three brothers after they carried out an online operation in January to purchase chemicals that could be used to make explosives, German prosecutors said.

“The police conducted house searches in particular, one of which resulted in the discovery of 10 kilograms of black powder,” the statement said, adding that “searches in Denmark in turn led to the discovery of chemical components.”
According to the German weekly Der Spiegel, danish authorities found an ISIS flag during their searches.
