Biden administration makes important decision on UAE

Navin Rasho –

President Joe Biden plans to maintain tariffs on aluminum imports from the UAE, the White House announced, reversing a move by his predecessor Donald Trump to end duties in the last days of his presidency.

“I believe it is necessary and appropriate in light of our national security interests to maintain at this time tariffs applied to imports of Aluminium from the United Arab Emirates,” Biden said in a statement issued by the White House on Monday.

On January 20th, Trump announced that he would exclude the UAE from 10% tariffs imposed on most Aluminium imports in 2018, adding that the two countries had reached a quota agreement that would limit Aluminium imports. The exemption was scheduled to come into effect on Wednesday.
