President “Joe Biden’s” administration has announced an extension of temporary protections for Syrian immigrants in the United States who cannot return home.
And “Acting Secretary “David Pekowski” will extend temporary protection status to 6,700 eligible Syrians until September 2022, allowing about 1,800 others to apply for preliminary applications,” the Department of Homeland Security said.
The program gives immigrants who cannot return home for reasons including natural disasters or armed conflicts, the possibility of remaining and working in the United States legally for a limited period that can be renewed.
And new U.S. President Joe Biden has pledged a more tolerant approach to refugees and immigrants, as his position contrasts with the hardline policies of former President Donald Trump, who has backtracked on many humanitarian protections.
