UN Security Council approves appointment of new UN envoy to Libya

The United Nations Security Council on Friday approved the appointment of veteran Slovak diplomat” Jan Kubic” as UN envoy to Libya, nearly a year after the former envoy resigned, diplomats said.

And UN Secretary-General’ António Guterres’ nominated “Kobisch” to succeed Ghassan Salameh, who resigned in March 2020 due to stress, and Stephanie Williams, deputy safety acting unenvoy to Libya, took over.

“Kobisch” was Foreign Minister of” Slovakia” and is currently the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon and served as a United Nations envoy to Afghanistan and Iraq.

And “Kubich’s” appointment comes after the Security Council last month approved “Guterres’ plan” to appoint Bulgarian diplomat Nikolai” Mladenov” as libya’s envoy, but” Mladenov” the Secretary-General a week later that he would not be able to carry out the mission “for personal and family reasons.”
