UN Secretary-General António Guterres has proposed to the UN Security Council the appointment of Slovak diplomat “Jan Kubic” as his new special envoy to Libya.

In his letter to the UN Security Council, Guterres said: “I would like to inform you, regarding my intention to appoint Mr.” Jan Kubisch” (Slovakia), as special representative and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. He will succeed Stephanie Williams (United States), who has held the position on behalf of March 16, 2020.”

According to diplomats interviewed by Tass, members of the United Nations Security Council have no substantive objections to Kobisch’s candidacy.

The council is expected to approve his appointment on Friday, January 15th, tass news agency quoted a diplomatic source as saying.

And the position of UN representative in Libya remained vacant for almost a year following the resignation of” Ghassan Salameh”.
