European Union leaders meeting in Brussels agreed on Friday to send a firm message to Ankara while threatening to impose sanctions, according to diplomats quoted by AFP.
And the European Commission confirmed in urgent news, shown on the screen of tomorrow, that the option of imposing sanctions on Ankara is Matrouh, stressing that it will do what is necessary if Turkey continues to explore the eastern Mediterranean.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in news published by Reuters on Friday that the European Union may impose sanctions on Ankara if Turkey’s “provocations and pressure” continue in the eastern Mediterranean.
The French agency indicated that the European Union agreed to send a firm message to Ankara, accompanied by a threat to impose sanctions on it at the request of Cyprus.
At the same session, the European Union gave the green light to impose sanctions on 40 Belarusian officials, not including President Alexander Lukashenko, European Council President Charles Michel announced to reporters.
These sanctions include some 40 Belarusian officials accused of suppressing dissent or rigging the results of the August 9 presidential election.
