Canadian newspaper: The Russian Navy conducts large exercises near Alaska

The American newspaper “Washington Post” reported: “The Russian Navy conducted major war games near Alaska that included dozens of ships and aircraft, the largest exercises of this kind in the region since the Soviet era.

And Russian Navy Commander Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov said that more than 50 warships and about 40 aircraft will participate in the exercises in the Bering Sea, which included multiple missile launches.

“We are conducting such intensive exercises there for the first time ever,” Yevmenov said in a statement issued by the Russian Defense Ministry, stressing that the war games are part of Russia’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the Arctic region and protect its resources.

And the Russian military has rebuilt and expanded many facilities across the Arctic in recent years, refurbishing runways and deploying additional air defense assets.
