A British newspaper: New fault lines in Libya will prevent a ceasefire

The British newspaper “The Independent” reported that after years of fighting, the war in Libya has developed into a broad clash involving many local, regional and international players. The ceasefire announced by the Government of National Accord and the Speaker of Parliament in eastern Libya, Agila Saleh, is considered a push to achieve a new type of Peace Partnership. ”

Although al-Sarraj and Saleh have the authority to declare a cessation of fighting, they cannot compel the parties to it, due to the involvement of many local and international forces in this conflict.

And Wolfram Lacher, a researcher at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, said, “Many armed groups do not fight for Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, but they are fighting against Haftar,”

And a spokesman for Haftar’s forces, Ahmed Al-Mismari, criticized the declaration of a ceasefire in the country, saying it was just media marketing by the Government of National Accord, which he accused of preparing for a new military attack, and accused Turkey of mobilizing ships and ground forces to attack Sirte.

According to the newspaper, there are a group of forces contributing to the battle that are not satisfied with the idea of ending the war and starting political dialogue, especially Russia.

And the Russian presence, via mercenaries, combat aircraft and air defense missile systems at strategic air bases near the Oil Crescent in eastern Libya, has sparked great controversy in the United States and among the major European powers as an imminent threat to NATO and security in the Mediterranean region.

And Moscow considers the ceasefire that it has strongly supported by the United States and which provides for the disarmament of the Sirte-Jufra strategic axis, a Western trick to thwart permanent Russian military, economic and political influence in the southern neighbor of Europe, because disarmament means the withdrawal of Russian forces stationed in the region, in the first place before everything.
