The Greek newspaper “Kathimerini” spoke of Washington’s warnings to Turkey to stop its provocative actions and said: “The US State Department called on Turkey to stop the plans of activities that cause tensions in a maritime area between Cyprus and Crete.”

Greek media quoted “Philip Reeker”, Acting Assistant Secretary of European and Eurasian Affairs at the US State Department, as saying:”We are concerned about the provocative actions that are stirring tensions in the region, and the United States is deeply concerned about Turkey’s announced plans to conduct a survey of natural resources in areas that confirm Greece and Cyprus that these areas belong to it in the eastern Mediterranean. ”

“This is a complex strategic space,” Ryker added, “I will repeat the message we sent before from Washington, as well as from other places in Europe, to urge the Turkish authorities to desist from conducting operations that create tensions.”
