Mauritania foils an attempt to smuggle large sums of money on a Turkish ship

Mauritanian security forces thwarted yesterday Thursday, an attempt to smuggle a quantity of many in hard currency from this country aboard a Turkish ship, which was preparing to leave, according to media reports.

And the Mauritanian Coast Guard confiscated $ 1.4 million hidden on the ship in Mauritanian waters, and stopped the captain of the ship.

The Mauritanian News Agency reported that the Turkish ship, which is named “Mamoul Ismail Rice”, was preparing to leave the Mauritanian waters towards Turkey “and completed the exit procedures under the pretext of routine maintenance operations.”

She explained that “the operation was thwarted after the Mauritanian Coast Guard obtained information that this amount was on board this ship.”

Mauritanian security also arrested the ship’s captain, who holds Turkish citizenship, for interrogation.
