A man died on Saturday becouse of a shark while spearfishing off the eastern Australian coast, police said.

The 36-year-old man was bitten in one of his legs near the Fraser Island tourist area, about 400 km north of Brisbane.

A doctor and a nurse tried to rescue the man on the beach before the relief teams arrived, but he died of his wounds on the spot, according to the police.

The police did not specify the type of shark. This is the fourth incident of its kind in which victims of a shark attack occurred in Australia this year.
