Media sources said that the European Union called on member states, on Thursday, to prepare for the possibility of not reaching an agreement with the United Kingdom on its exit from the European Union (Brexit).

The Council of Ministers of the European Union stated in a statement that the UK’s intention to refuse to extend the transitional period stipulated in the withdrawal agreement means that this period will end on December 31.

The Council added that it was informed of the limited progress made so far in the new partnership negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom.

He called on the Council of Ministers, member states of the European Union, its institutions and all stakeholders, to “intensify their work on preparedness and preparedness at all levels for all outcomes, including the lack of agreement.”

The United Kingdom left the European Union on January 31, and the two parties are currently negotiating a new partnership agreement before the transition period ends at the end of this year.
