Media sources reported that protesters destroyed and burned a memorial to a Confederate leader in Washington, which led to an angry response from President Donald Trump who expressed his dissatisfaction and called on the police to hold the perpetrators accountable.
Dozens of protesters in the American capital, Washington, destroyed the statue of General Albert Pike and burned it, as an expression of their continued anger at the police violence, after the killing of “George Floyd”, an African American citizen, by a policeman.
Trump expressed his anger at the actions of the protesters, and wrote in a tweet on his Twitter account, saying: “The capital police are not doing their job because they are witnessing the statue being destroyed and being burned. These people should be arrested immediately. They are a disgrace to our country, ”he said.
It is reported that, over the past weeks, escalating demands to end police violence and racial injustice in the United States have sparked demonstrations in several American cities, and protests that carried the slogan “Important Black Spirits” have spread to other global capitals.
