Coalition: Houthis continue to violate international law in Yemen and commit 80 violations

Biritan Tello –

The Arab Alliance for Support of Legitimacy in Yemen announced today, Thursday, that the Houthi militia militia committed 80 breaches of the armistice within 24 hours, increasing the total of its violations since the announcement of the ceasefire of 2572 violations.

“The coalition is committed to the ceasefire and support the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen, and the application of the utmost restraint while preserving the right of legitimate response to violations,” said a coalition spokesman, Turki Maliki.

“The Houthis continue to violate international humanitarian law by launching ballistic missiles and indiscriminately falling at civilians, as well as population centers, which threaten the lives of hundreds of civilians,” Maliki said.

The coalition indicated that they had taken the decision to extend the cease-fire at the request of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, to provide an opportunity to make progress in the negotiations and resume the political process.

He pointed out that “these hostilities and launches using ballistic missiles represent a continuation of the Houthis’ penetrations of the ceasefire and de-escalation initiative announced by the coalition and started on April 9.”

Notably, the coalition announced the extension of the ceasefire for a month, starting on Thursday, April 23, after its previous announcement on April 8, of a two-week cease-fire.
