The ministry’s statement stated that information is available to the National Security Sector about a group of terrorist elements taking a house in the vicinity of “Bir al-Abd”, North Sinai, “Kara” and “Murtakeza” to launch their hostilities.

The statement added: “They were targeting their hideout and exchanging fire with those elements, killing 18 people.”

The statement pointed out that 13 automatic weapons, 3 explosive devices and two explosive belts were found and the prosecution that took over the investigation was notified.

This comes two days after an attack on members of the Egyptian army in the same area, which killed and wounded 10 soldiers.

Army spokesman Colonel “Tamer Al-Rifai” stated that the army forces continue their combat operations against terrorist elements to maintain the country’s security.
