“HTS” has rearranged its ranks in Idlib, northwestern Syria, benefiting from the cessation of hostilities and the relative calm that followed the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey on 5 March.

The HTS ” AL-Nusra Previously” was designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the United Nations Security Council in 2018 and imposed international sanctions on it, but it continues to receive support and assistance from Turkey, which provides support to other terrorist groups in Syria.

Al-Monitor newspaper said, that “HTS” has made changes in the leadership of armed formations, and has intensified military training in camps spread all over northern Idlib, It is working to attract more recruits by exploiting the difficult living conditions in Idlib and unemployment among the youth,”

He confirmed that on April 14, the military wing of the “HTS” announced the creation of three new military brigades led by people close to the Headquarters for “HTS”.

An opposition military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Al-Monitor: “The announcement of the new military formations is merely a show of strength and an attempt to deliver a message to the Turkish-backed forces that “HTS” continues to expand and still has what it takes to defend its presence in Idlib”.

It is worth noting that “HTS” suffers from great splits in its ranks and its poor military performance, as is evident during the recent battles against the Syrian government forces at the beginning of 2020.
