Several heavy engineering vehicles are busy building cement walls in the surrounding areas of al-Ershadieh building in front of al-Halisat Mosque in al-Mashlab district in the Center of Raqqa, Arabic-language Baladi News Website close to the militant groups reported.
It pointed to a large number of military troops stationed in the region and flight of the US choppers over Raqqa, and said that al-Ershadiyeh building will house the headquarters of the US troops.
Construction of the US headquarters in regions under the control of the SDF is taking place as the US is claiming that it is going to pull out its troops from Syria.
The US seems to be increasing the number of its military bases in the region as calls are growing to expel the American forces from the countries.
Calls have grown in Iraq for the US exit since last December, when President Donald Trump made an unannounced visit to al-Asad Air Base in the Western Anbar Province.
A senior Iraqi legislator underlined on Wednesday that his country had not signed any agreement with Washington which included contents to justify the US military presence in Iraq.
“A security agreement was inked between Baghdad and Washington in 2008 and it requires the US forces to leave Iraq and only render logistical support to the Iraqi security forces like equipping them with weapons and training them,” Mozar Khaz’al, a representative of Islah coalition in the Iraqi parliament, told al-Ma’aloumeh news website.
He underlined that the contents of the agreement did not include the US military presence in Iraq, saying that if Iraq’s security is seriously endangered, then the American forces should defend it but they showed no reaction when the ISIL terrorist group raided a number of Iraqi provinces.
Khaz’al said that the Iraqi parliament would try to approve a bill which requires evacuation of all foreign forces who are deployed in Iraq illegally.
In a relevant development on Wednesday, Iraqi sources said that Washington intends to set up a large military base equipped with advanced weapons near the triangle of Iraq-Syria-Jordan.
The sources pointed to the deployment of a US military convoy, sent from Jordan, in Iraq.
The Arabic-language al-Ma’aloumeh news agency quoted an informed source in al-Anbar province as saying that the US forces want to establish a permanent military base near the Syrian-Iraqi-Jordanian triangle in the Western parts of al-Anbar in Iraq.
He added that a military convoy of vehicles, carrying weapons and equipment, has been transferred to Iraq from Jordan, noting that the US wants to set up a large military base equipped with state-of-the-art equipment in the region.
