The co-chair of PYD Shaoza Hassen talked to ANHA in the light of the Turkish occupation attacks on Girê Spî and Kobanî.

Hassen pointed out that the international forces must move responsibly and make a clear decision to protect the liberated areas, and to highlight their position towards the attacks of the Turkish state, “The attacks mean the violation of the Turkish occupation state of all conventions against IS mercenaries.”

If we do not put an end to the Turkish state, it will have a significant impact on the fight against IS. These attacks are against the solution of the Syrian crisis and would complicate it.”

The Turkish attacks are planned for

Shahoz Hassen confirmed that the Turkish state is hostile to Rojava regions and northern and eastern Syria in public, he added, “The Turkish attacks are planned for and deliberated, and they coincided with the continuation of the battle to defeat terrorism in Hajin area. The first of November is the International Day of Solidarity with Kobanî, and the east of Syria has reached a high level in terms of peace and security and a common life and freedom. The Turkish state does not want this experience and wants to eliminate it.”

Hassen pointed out that the Turkish state close is ethnic and nationalist and continued, “The Turkish state adopts the policy of genocide and demographic change with the aim of annihilating the Kurdish people and all the people of northern and eastern Syria. The Turkish state is launching all-dirty means in the attacks on the liberated areas.”

Targeting the civilians is dangerous

Shahoz Hassen said that the people of Rojava and the north and east of Syria had defeated IS in the historic resistance of Kobanî and that they had stopped IS expansion in Syria, “The stage of eliminating IS continues in Deir ez-Zor, but the occuping Turkish state does not want to end IS and tries to impose a dangerous situation on the arena. The Turkish state’s policy is based on the genocide of the peoples, so it targets journalists, children and women. All the people of Syria united in the fight against IS, and today, we see that the resistance of the people lasts against the occupation in Afrin and the regions of northern Syria. The Turkish State targets children and women in four parts of Kurdistan. The Turkish state moves with IS mentality, and targets the civilians and this is a dangerous situation.”

The statements are important, but stronger positions must be presented

Shahzoz Hassen called for standing against the Turkish state’s policy of genocide, adding, “Stronger positions must be highlighted. The occuping Turkish state claims that the forces present in Rojava and northern and eastern Syria are attacking it, but these claims are far from the truth, and the evidence of this is the martyrdom of civilians.”

On the international positions, Hassen said that France issued a statement, “The statements are important, but that are not enough. We must highlight stronger positions and reactions to the Turkish attacks. The attacks of the Turkish occupation state are a violation of all the agreements concluded to fight IS because these agreements were concluded on the basis of the struggle against IS. The international forces must act responsibly and with a clear decision to protect the liberated areas.”

If the Turkish state’s practices do not stop, the existence of IS will continue

Shahoz Hassen noted that the Turkish state is related to IS mercenaries, and added, “Erdogan wants to revenge for IS because the Turkish state has provided assistance and support to IS. The attacks launched by the Turkish state on Rojava and northern Syria aim at maintaining IS presence. If the Turkish state’s practices do not stop, that will have a negative impact on fighting against IS, and we will see more aggravation of the crisis in Syria.”
Turning a blind eye to the attacks puts the control on Syria at risk

Shahoz condemned the Syrian regime’s silence against the Turkish attacks and said, “Every day, the Syrian regime and Russia come out and say that they are against any division of the Syrian territory, but the Turkish state is launching attacks on the Syrian territory. Unfortunately, we do not see any reaction by the Syrian regime, either the Syrian regime and the Turkish state agree in this matter, or these attacks are in the interests of the regime … These methods do not protect the control in Syria, the occupation in the international laws is considered a crime and the Syrian regime must open a case against the crimes that occur, but we see the contrary. The regime has not any position against the attacks, and disregards the attacks, and the Syrian regime establishes a ground for the Turkish state to launch attacks on the Syrian territory.

We must protect all our gains

PYD’s co-chair Shahoz Hassen noted that the north and east of Syria enter a new stage, “The stage of the solution imposes itself. The political solution for north and east Syria plays a role in solving the Syrian crisis to a certain extent, but these attacks are a great threat to the democratic nation’s project so we must protect the gains from the attacks through great struggle and resistance; then, we will ensure a solution to the crisis.”
