Turkey confirms “impossibility” of its full withdrawal »from Idlib
Turkish Defense Minister Khulosi Akar said Idlib was home to between 3.5 and 4 million people and that any attack against it would push millions of people towards the Turkish border. Akkar pointed out that Turkey does not say it will not host these people, but leaving them bear all the burdens alone is unacceptable, so Turkey confirmed its rejection of any attack on the Syrian regime against this province, and worked with Russia, Iran and neighboring countries to prevent such an attack.
He pointed to the importance of the Sochi agreement on Idlib, signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Russia, on 17 September, in order to prevent any negative things in Idlib.
On Turkey’s intention to leave Syria, Akar said: “We are working on the security of Turkey in Syria and Iraq, can anyone say that we have to withdraw all our forces from Syria, and get out of Afrin and Idlib? imposible”.
He pointed out that the procedures for drafting a constitution in Syria is continuing, and then elections will be held and will have its own management, and saw that Turkey’s policy in the Middle East, is not an “adventure.” He added that «the Turkish government headed by Erdogan take the necessary decisions for our security and our defense and implement».
The Turkish defense minister denied the existence of any contacts with the Syrian regime, noting that President Bashar al-Assad killed nearly one million people.
