Universities conference’s 1ST day concluded with participation of international universities’ researchers and professors
The activities of the first day of North and East Syria’s universities conference in which many personalities from different universities in the world, including the Britani Oxford University ended. After that, the annual reports of the Universities of North and East Syria, including Afrin University which was stopped because of the Turkish occupation were read.
Aiming at forming a common system and developing education, the first day of the first conference of North and East Syria universities took place on Friday at Rojava University in Qamişlo city.
The students of Rojava University, Kobanî University’s students, Afrin University’s students, the Democratic Autonomous Administration’s (DAA) bodies, the Training Committee of the Democratic Society, intellectuals, the members of the training academy, Şengal teachers, the official of the Diplomatic Relations Office in the Democratic Society Movement Aldar Khalil and the co-chair of the DAA in al-Jazeera region Abdel Karim Sarokhan attended the conference.
After several speeches that clarified the role of the universities in developing the educational process in Rojava and North Syria were delivered, the annual reports of the various universities of North and East Syria were read.
In the report of Afrin University, the cessation of the university after Afrin has been occupied by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, and its impact on the educational process there were focused on.
Afrin University is the first university that was opened in Rojava and North Syria. It was opened in 2015 and included faculties such as Economics Faculty, Engineering, Kurdish Literature, Medicine and Media.
According to the report, “The Turkish occupation state launched a large-scale attack on Afrin on January 20. The attacks inflicted great damage to the university as all the students were cut off from the university and the exams were postponed. After Afrin was occupied by the Turkish occupation army, the residents displaced to al-Shahba canton. Many of the students of Afrin University registered themselves at Rojava University in Qamişlo and Kobanî University.”
After the report of Afrin University was read, the reports of Rojava and Kobanî Universities were read.
Professors and researchers participated in the conference
A professor in al-Suleimaniyah University in Başûr (South Kurdistan) Hoza Amin participated in the conference via Skype. He suggested strengthening the relations between the universities of North and East Syria and the universities of Başûr Kurdistan in addition to the work intensively on teaching the Kurdish language and introducing Rojava Revolution.
Furthermore, the researcher Ahmed Kara from Oxford University in Britain participated in the conference via Skype and pointed out that Rojava Revolution has become an example for the whole world. Ahmed Kara continued, “The educational development means the development of the society as well. We hope you success in your work.”
It is worth mentioning that the conference will continue on its second day on Saturday at Rojava University’s stadium in Qamişlo city, and it is scheduled to be concluded with important decisions at the level of developing the educational system in North and East Syria.
