Afrin restructures its AA by nominating new co-chairs for local bodies
The people of Afrin and al-Shahba cantons elected the co-chairs of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) bodies and institutions in the region during an extended meeting. It is supposed that their names would be revealed in the coming hours.
The meeting was held in Serdem camp in al-Shahba canton with the participation of more than 1,200 people among them the clans’ notables of the Arab and Kurdish component from Afrin and al-Shahba cantons, representatives of the political parties in the area, representatives from all segments and components located in the region and representatives of the bodies and institutions of DAA and al-Shahba Council.
After holding a minute of silence, the co-chair of the Constituent Assembly of the Democratic North-Syria Federation Hadiya Yusuf talked and said that reconsidering the structure of DAA in the area came basing on discussions and suggestions of the two conferences of Afrin Liberation and al-Shahba Canton Administration.
Yusuf added, “In the light of the emergency conditions witnessed in al-Shahba and the occupation of Afrin and to maintain the security, we have to hold this meeting and conduct the elections taking into account the participation of representatives from all segments and components to be democratic and equal elections.”
Hadiya said that the elections will include the election of a joint presidency for the Executive and Legislative Councils of the region. Moreover, the candidates must be believers in the ideology and philosophy of the democratic nation away from authority and capitalism and that the personalities must be able to take the responsibility and be ready to serve the people everywhere in all circumstances.
After that, the nomination for the membership of the administrative bodies in Afrin and al-Shahba cantons started as about 200 people are nominated.
After the candidates introduced their names and autobiography, the voting process began.
Meantime, the members of the electoral commission in al-Shahba and Afrin cantons are working on sorting the votes to be announced in the coming hours.
It is expected that 24 people will be elected to administrate the Autonomous Administration bodies in the two cantons, including the Health, Education, Finance, Youth and Sports, Social Affairs and Labor which includes the Martyrs’ Families Council, Religions Affairs, the Economy and Agriculture Authority, the Culture and Art and the Local Administration Body.
