Strong clashes in Baguz Fawqani, 19 mercenaries killed
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confirmed the outbreak of strong clashes in the vicinity of Baguz Fawqani village in Deir ez-Zor. The forces also confirmed that they thwarted attacks with booby-trapped vehicles and killed 19 IS mercenaries.
SDF’s media center issued a statement on the progress of the last stage of al-Jazeera Tempest campaign to expel IS from their last strongholds east of Deir ez-Zor.
The statement said,
“In the last stage of al-Jazeera tempest campaign, “The Battle to Defeat Terrorism,” our forces carried out a combing operation in the area of Baguz Fawqani within an area of 1 Km2 on Wednesday morning hours, September 19, 2018. In addition to the bombing of 11 mines planted by the terrorists in the area.
Violent clashes broke out in the area in coincidence with the terrorist organization’s attempt to advance and attack our forces. The attack began with heavy artillery shelling using heavy artillery; Obis and mortars. That was followed by an attempt to attack with three booby-trapped cars that were all destroyed by our forces before reaching their targets. Two terrorists of the organization tried to immerse within our forces, but they also failed and were killed when they tried to approach the points of our fighters. Moreover, our forces blasted a motorcycle carrying a Dushka of 12.5 mm.
The initial toll that our forces have documented in these clashes is that approximately 19 terrorists have been killed and most of their bodies have fallen at the hands of our forces with their military equipment.
The clashes is continuing sporadically with air support of the International Coalition forces.
Furthermore, 4 of our fighters were wounded during the clashes.”
